I’ve had time. Time to discuss with my boyfriend, time to look at photos of dogs in armour, and time to understand exactly what yesterday’s announcement means to me.
It means I had better start saving money;
for PC parts.
Truthfully, I was hugely excited for the Xbox One reveal, purely because I had stupidly high hopes of what this new machine could do that my PC can’t. All of the cloud features sound like things I can do with a PC and tablet. All the games stuff sounds exactly like what my PC can do anyway, and probably better.
Anything you can do, I can do better, in a custom pink chassis.
Xbox One is an interesting choice for a name for the new device. Apple did something similar with the “New iPad”, but all it served to do was confuse people. (Was it the 3? Or were they re-running ads for the iPad 1? Or ‘One’ – hahaha) My point is, even the rumoured names like Infinity were more exciting and epic.
It looks like the Xbox One will come loaded with a buttonne of new features (some that we can’t use in Australia (at least on release)), LIKE LIVE TV. BECAUSE WE DON’T HAVE TV IN AUSTRALIA. WE CAN’T WATCH TV WITHOUT BUYING AN XBOX ONE. This is what they’re really trying to push. You connect your Xbox to your TV, right? And then, like, instead of using real channels, you go through the Xbox One, because that’s somehow easier. Because the Xbox One is an entertainment system, not just a gaming console. It’s for everyone. It’s for everyone so that they only need to buy and Xbox ONE BECAUSE THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO HAVE FUN IN LIFE JUST ONE THING ONE ON EONE OEN-
And always online gameplay, because that is super convenient. Y’know, when we can’t even organise the NBN. Currently, my internet connection is all over the place. If my partner (or even my housemate) is playing an online game, YouTube is impossible. If two of us are playing at the same time, and talking on TeamSpeak… well fuck. How are those of us without amazeballs internet supposed to deal with always-online consoles?
I just can’t seem to get myself excited about a console that is the same as the x360 I have in my loungeroom, but with better graphics and a heap of features I don’t give a fuck about. I’m going to wait. I want to have a few games to play and all of the bugs worked out – because there will be bugs. And I also want to be able to eat for the next 6 years.
And I don’t give a fuck about Call Of Duty.
What do you think about the big reveal? Will you be lining up on release, or will you, like me, wait for something worthwhile to be announced?
